A Short clip of "Signing Time"
I currently work in a special education school as an aide for the summer and in the classroom I work in, the students watch a half hour show called "Signing Time" for the non-verbal and even verbal students learn some words in ASL. By watching it with them, I have learned some words myself. The sing-a-longs are very catchy and repetitive; it's easy for students to pick up on. I would definitely use the "Signing Time" series in my classroom to facilitate communication and give students the opportunity to learn an additional language.
ABC Simple Spelling
This video broke down the sounds of letters, especially of the vowel "e" when it is alone or along with another "e". Then the video continues by trying to construct the word "tree", but does it wrong several times first, sounds it out, and then finally shows the final product and how it should sound. It is a cute way to teach phonetics and to kindly quiz children on their pronunciation.
The Spanish Sing-a-long I never forgot!
I had heard this song almost five years ago and is one of the songs that always stuck to me. It is catchy and pretty fun to listen to. It was used on high schoolers (which at the time was a bit juvenile), but I can recite the Spanish alphabet in rhythmic form now. If i could remember it as a high schooler, I believe that this can be a nice introduction for students starting to learn the Spanish language an easy way to remember their new alphabet.
Jo, nice job with your blog. I really like your background.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this signing video. I would use it for all my students. It’s always good to learn something new and learning how to communicate with other people through sign language is certainly worthwhile.
The Spanish alphabet song is cute. I agree that it is much easier to remember something if it rhymes and this video is great for any grade level too.
Good job on your blog. We picked the same background (haha). I really liked that you had these different types of videos. The first video is great for students to learn to communicate in a different way. The Spanish alphabet is a fun way to learn it. I would use this video in my Spanish class.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job, Johanna. You picked great videos and your reasoning for using them demonstrates sound teaching strategies. Good job.
